It Begins!

I’ve been meaning to put together this new portfolio site for a little while now and as I got started on it I had a thought - why not start blogging, too?

And you know what? Why not?? My current thought is the blog will focus mainly on two topics: sharing techniques for creating art assets for games, and following my game dev journey as I learn to code and prototype my own game ideas. I’m not sure where you’re at in your own personal journey, but hopefully you find something useful in the blog posts to come.

That’s me, by the TV, game dev-ing as hard as I can. It’s sweaty work.

The rest of my site should (hopefully) offer some sort of introduction as to who I am, but I’ll add a bit more context and backstory here just in case. I’m an artist currently working in the game industry as a Senior Artist. I absolutely love what I do. I also previously worked at a toy company for a little over 5 years making collectible vinyl figures for a ton of licensors, both big and small. From working in both of these industries I’ve acquired some knowledge about making art assets - characters, most specifically - and I love to share and exchange that knowledge with others. I don’t know everything, but what I do know I’ll happily share.

Godot Game Engine

Loving Godot so far. It seems especially friendly for baby programmers like me.

Most recently I’ve become increasingly interested in learning a bit of the programming side of game development. Last year I decided to take an introductory course that covered the very basics of object-oriented programming. Around the same time I heard about - and consequently became very interested in - the Godot game engine which, to me, feels very approachable. I’ve been following along with Godot tutorials and learning some basics of GDScript (the native coding language in Godot), and hope to be able to apply that knowledge soon in attempting to build my own game prototypes.

I hope you enjoy these posts, and please leave a comment or reach out with any questions or suggestions for future content.
